Backup and Restore

NetScore has been around for a while. Fully self contained, no accounts, no online systems, your data and information stays on your device.

I figure it might be a good idea though to be able to back up that data though.

Currently there is no way to back up the players / matches / stats that you’ve collected in NetScore which, when I think about it, makes me a little anxious. If anything happens to the phone, you loose it all. That’s where the idea of offering full backup and restore came from.

Coming in the next major update is just that. A full backup and restore system. You will be able to go into Settings -> Backup and Restore and choose to create a new backup. The app will then backup EVERYTHING you have collected while using the app and bundle it up in a simple text friendly file. You will be able to see your backups in a list and at any time choose to restore to that back up.

You can also choose to set up automatic backups. Doing this will mean every time you launch NetScore it will create a backup. Also whenever a match ends it will create a backup. There’s some smarts built in to make sure only one automatic backup a day is kept and there is a hard limit of 10 backups total so that your phone isn’t getting filled up with backup files. You have full control over the backups and can delete them whenever you want. You can also make a manual backup whenever you want as well. If the 10 maximum limit is reached NetScore will just delete the oldest backup and carry on.

Even more than that though, because the backup gets saved to your iPhone/iPad documents you can pretty much do whatever you like with it. If you have iCloud backup, it will get automatically backed up to iCloud whenever your phone backs itself up. If you don’t have iCloud backup (you really should, its a data lifesaver) you can just open the Files app on your phone and share the backup wherever you want. Airdrop it to your Mac and save it, email it you yourself, whatever you want.

I’m also making the file fully human readable as well. It’s your data so you should be able to see it / read it / edit it whoever you want.

I’ve got a test version going through final testing and all going well the Backup and Restore update will hit the App Store soon.

Here’s a few test version screenshots. Note: This is a test version so final interface may be different.

Thanks again for using the app.
